Fellow Geeks,

Someone told me something today I had never heard of. Iknow that is no great shock to most of you but here it is.

The cigar shop guy told me to rub a little honey at the top of the bowl of a new pipe to help start the cake forming.

Have any of you guys ever heard of that. Does it work?

Toby

It works on Briars and Cobs (ithough not as well if your pipe's bowl interior is pre-treated/blackened).

"Never* try this honey method on a Meerschaum, meer-lined or clay pipe.

If you do use honey, do it once, keep it thin, keep it warm to apply, use only about 20% of what you think is "just a little" and smoke the entire bowl (filled with tobacco) slowly down to just ash, then tap your pipe in the heel of your other hand to remove that stuff and put the pipe away.

Rest the pipe at least a day before filling the entire bowl again and smoke it slowly down to ash. Rinse and repeat this way and your cake will develop nicely over time.
