Privada Cigar Club Discord Cigar by AJ Fernandez 4.5 Star Rating
By: tuck0411 (Today at 03:50 PM)
Humidor time: 148 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 62, foot - 59
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave this long, skinny lancero a punch and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, dark wood, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was a very rich and flavorful smoke with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (33/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling past 1" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This was another single I picked up from the Privada CC shop when they were having a sale awhile back. It was released in honor of PCC's Discord community, which apparently is growing and thriving, although I don't know for sure as I don't participate. At any rate, this was a fine smoke and one I'd like to try in other vitolas if they were available.  It's a Nicaraguan puro and not an unusual blend from AJ, but definitely a tasty one. (33/35)

Perdomo 30th Anniversary Box-Pressed Maduro Churchill 4.5 Star Rating
By: druid (Today at 11:08 AM)
Semi soft, gently BPd, maduro dark wrapper, no veins & lots of oils.  PLA molasses-y earth; PLT sweet earth & light molasses; PLD moderate.  A normal toast & light, a moderate draw, an even burn needing no work, & a pleasing mineral smoke.  Mild earth, rich leather & very little spice to start off.  Flavor strength is medium plus.  Coffee bean & black coffee come on early.  A pleasant mineral note tinges the retro.  Wheat & faint traces of baker's chocolate join in the 2nd 1/3.  The finale is a mellow mix & the finish starts earth & leather & slides down to the other notes.  The body is upper medium.   A great long smoke & a perfect performer.

Humidor time: 147 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 70, foot - 60
Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (9/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of dark wood, coffee, spice, and just a bare hint of chocolate. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This was yet another regional cigar club stick I got from the Privada CC shop when they were having a sale awhile back. And another banger of a smoke with both flavor and construction checking all the right boxes. Who makes it is undisclosed as is the blend, but if I had to guess it's probably a Nicaraguan stick containing tobacco from that country. It tasted like a habano wrapper on top of a mix of Nicaraguan and Dominican leaf underneath.  A good blend and a good smoke. (33/35)

Class 34 Fugazi - Compare to Cuban Montecristo No. 2 4.5 Star Rating
By: druid (04/30/2024 11:07 AM)
Semi soft core, medium brown oily wrapper, no veins.  PLA wheat & baking; PLT earth; PLD mod.  An easy toast & light, a mod easy draw, an even burn, & light cedar & hay smoke.  Starters are wood, hay & a hint of herbal spice.  The strength is mild.  The 1/3 brings coffee & cream, very light, & tings of nuttiness.  The nuts get stronger in the 2nd 1/3 & a floral perfume, again very light, appears.  Past the 1/2 mild earth tones come.  The final 1/3 is smooth & light,  The cedar, hay, nuts, earth, coffee & cream are as light as air & the finish is almost creamy sweet.  The body is mild.  I hate the term but "Cubanesque." If you want the Cuban experience for under $5, this is it.

Humidor time: 146 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 61, foot - 55
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single clip with the guillotine and PLD was open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a full-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, black coffee, charred wood, leather, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing a bit through the first third and the body receding towards medium/full. Very tasty, overall, with plenty of spice and rich Nicaraguan goodness to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from the Privada CC shop when they were having a sale awhile back. As with the previous conny and habano versions of this brand, no clue is provided as to who makes these apart from it being a "famous factory in Esteli, Nicaragua".  It kind of sounds like these were originally made for a name-brand and these were over-runs or somesuch.  Great smokes, in any case, and I will likely be grabbing more of them next time PCC has a sale. A hard spear, a medium brown wrapper, no veins & good oils.  PLA a wood & floral note; PLT touch of wine barrel; PLD moderate.  A snap to toast & light, a moderate draw, a very even burn, & a woodsy smoke.  Starters are earth, leather & a bit of pepper & herb spice.  The strength is medium.  The profile settles down early into mild notes of earth with touches of leather & wood.  The spice all but disappears from the mouth.  Nearing the 1/2 the flavors tone down even more & an undefinable sweetness tries to join but never really makes it.  The rest of the cigar is the same with a wood & leather finish.  The body is medium.  Nothing special.

This cigar suprised me with how good it was. Sweetened cap usually not my thing, but worked so well. This Toro lost its sweetness after about a third and then had all the qualities of a San Andres wrapper. Earth and mineral tones. Lost of aromatic smoke and great draw and burn. Excellent experience.

Humidor time: 145 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 66, foot - 52
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of black pepper, leather, charred wood, black coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors mellowing just slightly through the first third but otherwise staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was quite tasty with just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, smoke volume on the low side of optimal, and an even burn to start. The burn was a bit wavy but self-correcting through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving no cone behind. Smoke output hadn't improved much at this point so a 2nd shallow V-cut was applied on top of the initial cut and smoke output then improved to optimal. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal from the 2nd third on. (19/20)

Overall impression: This one came from the Privada CC shop when they were having a sale awhile back. This was apparently a Limited Cigar Association release in the "Lost & Found" vein and is advertised as having been made for an "eponymous" brand, which basically means the brand was named for some well-known person.  Given this is probably a Nicaraguan-made stick given it's got all Nicaraguan tobacco in it, it's still hard to figure who might have made it given the number of brands from that country that are named after their owner.  It's also advertised as having been in the top five on various lists, presumably COTY lists.  I don't know that it was quite that good, but it was a pretty nice smoke and very flavorful. Kind of reminded me of a few Aging Room sticks I've had but that doesn't meet the "eponymous" criteria.  Oh well, good smoke in any case and definitely worth smoking again. (32/35)

Firm core, smooth tan wrapper, no veins & light oils.  PLA mild wood (floral at foot); PLT mild earth; PLD easy.  Very easy toast, light & draw, even burn, & mild earth & wood smoke.  Starters are earth, cedar & very light pepper in mouth & nose.  Strength is medium.  1st 1/3 brings some cream & a little hay.  The flavors are mellow & tasty.  The 2nd 1/3 has some coffee & cream, also light.  The back 1/2 has the wood & earth picking up a bit in intensity, most likely from the heating tobacco, but still very pleasant.  The finish starts woody & earthy sliding down to the cream.  The body is medium.  An excellent Connecticut & a great value!
