I went to the local excuse for a B&M looking for a pipe and some baccy yesterday. No cobs at all and only a few grossly overpriced briars. I did buy a tamping tool and some Mr B's Mark Twain aromatic blend which I really liked the smell of and the owner recommended. Just went to Missouri Meerschaum online and scored 4 different cobs for $30 shipped to Canada. (figured I may as well make the cost of shipping worthwhile.) I am pretty pumped to try them out but I still need to find a better source of tobacco. If any Geeks know of a vendor that actually ships internationally that would be helpful.

Just pulled the trigger on some tobacco from 4noggins on Kyle's recommendation. I wasn't to sure what to go with so I just chose a few that had been mentioned frequently in the forums...

2oz Lane 1-Q
2oz Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Kentucky
2oz GL Pease Montgomery

Anyhooo, guess I will see what floats my boat.

I have 1-Q right now and it's all right, but I have nothing to compare it too. It was a recommendation from the tobacconist.  It's got a nice aroma and it's mild in strength but it lacks a little bit in the flavor department.

Glad to hear that you're looking forward to the adventure, but I have to warn you that it's another slippery slope for the TAD...

My dad orders frequently from SmokingPipes.com (one of Kyle's recommendations).  The McClelland tobaccos are generally pretty tasty.

I haven't tried it, but I've heard that some people use 1Q for blending.  I've also heard that some shops use 1Q as a base for thier house blends.

I just finished my first bowl ever! ...of tobacco! I couldn't wait for my cob's to arrive from MM so I went out and found a MM Ozark Mountain Cherry Hardwood for a couple bucks and torched her up with some of the Mark Twain blend I had found earlier. I can see that this pipe will need a break in but using the Frank method (Thanks Armin for reposting Les's find) I had a very pleasurable experience with a good sustained burn for the first 30min and relights every ten or so minutes thereafter.

Sorry I've been AWOL and missed this thread, life's got me by the gonads presently.

Congrats on your first bowl RoscozR, glad to hear your enjoying pipe smoking. So how's it been so far?  Are you over packing it yet and having gurgle issues (I know I sure did!)? Did your cobs ever come in?

I've said it before, but man I love that Kendal Kentucky - it's my new drug, gotta order more.  1Q is good, but I'd mix the two together - more nic, less PG (preservative).  Just me though.
