Having moved many times, I'm always finding boxes of stuff containing items I believed were lost for good many years prior.
Well this past week, I was going through a box of old clothes and, in the bottom of the box, to my surprise, found two old Peterson P-Lip stemmed pipes in a zip-lock bag along with a Peterson leather pouch.
There was a small amount of tobacco in the pouch but the natural rubber liner had deteriorated badly, so I carefully removed both making the pouch perfectly usable again using a thick plastic Sterling Tobacco sampler bag filled with "new" tobacco. The front pocket contained some pipe cleaners and BIC lighter and a Peterson pipe knife all in fine condition.
Oh, but the pipes :( ... they not only smelled terrible, vulcanite stems were badly oxidized and stained, sorely in need of major reconditioning. Airing out the briars thankfully alleviated the stinky smells, but the stems? Oh my ... thankfully, a friend sent me this link on how to correct this, so I thought I'd share it with y'all. It took some elbow grease, but now both stems are in like new condition and judicious use of the Obsidian Oil is keeping my stems bright and shiny.
