Ziploc and Bubble Wrap

OK, not the normal cellophane question.  As most know, lots of fivers and such come in either ziploc bags or bubble sleeves from mail order.  What does everyone do with these.  Lately for storage I have been opening them but putting them in the coolerdor still in the sleeve.  Provides some protection as well as keeps them together.  As a practice, would I be hindering the aging process or just storage in general?

Just wanted some opinions.

I've kept cigars in open ziplocs for many months in my tower without incident when I got too lazy to log them into my journal and didn't want to forget who bombed me or what vintage they were.

There is a potential for ammonia to build up and even mold if you have high hunidity inside the bag.  Also, loose cigars in a baggie tend to get damaged easier than those in a box or drawer.

So should maybe cutting the edge of the bags off so there is an open end help with the ammonia possibility?  Sometimes the things are perfectly fitted, so it makes stacking them in the cooler so convenient.

I don't keep cigars in plastic bags.  I freeze them on receipt, then in the humidor they go, bagless.

Used to do no bags, but running out if storage.  Makes fitting them without damage a bit easier.

Micheal, you just need more storage, IMO.

Given the investment, it just makes sense.

StogieDad

Haha prob true.  Or to quit buying. I have a large coolerdor, a fridgeador, two large humis, 2 glasstops, a jar, a small box and a couple tupperdors.  Time for a cabinet I guess.

I don't keep things in their bags for long. I do currently have a few humi bags with boveda packs that I use for additional storage. If you need more space, I would be considering a tupperdor, bagidor, or a second coolerdor. Keeping them in closely fitting plastic, even with the end cut, will create pockets of moisture and is going to cause mold.

Don't use them for long term storage. No particular reason other than just don't. I keep a supply on hand for transporting or shipping.

Maybe I was lucky, but I kept fivers in the plastic baggies (bags opened) for about a year for easier storage.  Had no issues.
