Thinking about doing a large tupperdor instead of a coolidor. I like the idea of being able to see inside without opening it. I know little about tupperdors especially this size what are your thoughts? Here is a link.

I keep smaller one that work great. Would you put anything around the lip to help insure a good seal?

It claims to be air tight. I worry about susceptibility to temperature fluctuations with tupperdors.

If it's any reassurance at all...I keep the bulk of my collection in tuperdores with either Heartfelt beads or a small plastic box of kittly litter in place for humidity control. I throw a couple of slices of Spanish cedar in each tupperdore as well. Pop the lids every week or so and check the humidity once in a while and you're good to go. There really isn't any magic or mystery about cigar storage if you pay attention to the basic environmental factors. Spend all the time you worry about these things on enjoying the cigars and forget the rest! Scale the amount of beads or kitty litter up to the size of the box and relax.

Do I need to wash them the same as a cooler to get rid of a plastic smell?

It isn't a bad idea, just to be safe.

I also use these for some storage, and if I could get more I would. They work great for my situation where it's climate controlled. I washed them out and left them in the sun just like with a coolidor and have not had any problems since. I run mine with about 10 Boveda packs and they last for about 6 months before I recharge.

Wow, I had no idea people did this.  The "newb" in me showing through again!  Do you guys only store boxes in these?  If you use it for singles, do you build some type of shelving into these?

I'm a little anal so I put small insulation around the top. I think they call it D channel or something like that. I also put a cheap electronic thermometer with humidity level in each one to be able to get a quick ballpark humidity level. In my cellar the temps and humidity are pretty constant so I don't need to go crazy. I have 4 going now for 2+ years and am happy with the setup.

Does anyone have info on this exact model? Is it airtight?

I've been using the Rubbermaid containers with either K/L or Boveda packs for years, and I find that they hold a rock steady RH.

I believe that any plastic containers (jars, tubs, etc) have some kind of code cast into the product to let the consumer know what category of plastic it is made from.  Not sure of how many different types there are, maybe 4-5 or thereabouts, and only some are what they categorize as "food storage" type, those are the ones that would probably work best for cigar storage, not sure.  I would guess that the food storage ones are maybe more expensive, once again not sure.

Edit ..... looks like there are 7 kinds of plastic, no reference to cigars included   !!!

OXO makes an air tight container called "Good Grips"

They come in sizes ranging from 1/3 quart to 5 1/2 quart.  Could make for an interesting container.

I've been using 2.5 gallon Rubbermaid containers since my humidor is full and the other one refused to hold humidity (it was a cheap piece of crap anyway). Just wash it out like you would with a cooler. I propped an indoor/outdoor hygrometer from Wal-Mart in it so I could monitor the temp and humidity without opening it up. And, as an added bonus, it tells me the outside temperature as well

I use the exact same model and love it. Have two...one shorter, one taller. Has a foam seal around the lip of the lid that keeps it air/water tight. So much so that I have to be careful not to let the cigars get over humidified. I started out with two gel humidifiers in each box, but had to go down to just one per box because of the overhumidification. Seems to be about right now. I also have a wooden box humidor that I move the cigars to a few days before smoking....experimenting with dry-boxing too.

For shelving in my small tupperdor, I use box lids as trays...seems to work pretty well. Probably could use some slots for more circulation though.

Just got my order in. Should be here first part of next week. Think I'll get a couple trays to store singles in.

I used those in Afghanistan with a couple Boveda packs - worked like a charm... (in my hooch not out in the sunlight).
