Dear Members,

As our site continues to grow, the interest for Geek Critques increase. We are currently reviewing four cigars per month, two via retail sponsorship and two via member sponsorship. In order to continue our progress with this venture it is imperative to not only keep ahead of the demand in an organized fashion, but most importantly to honor our sponsors by providing reviewers who can adhere to our posted deadlines.

Beginning today, a reviewer who posts their review late will receive neutral feedback. A reviewer who does not post at all will receive negative feedback. There are always exceptions to the rule, and a reasonable excuse for tardiness or a no show will be respected and thus not counted against the reviewer. Our sponsoring members and our administrators make the choice of who is to participate in any particular Geek Critique and can be better informed of their choices with this new initiative in place.

Our retail sponsors trust our site and our members in order to have their cigar exceptionally reviewed. In exchange, we promise those reviews to be posted for two weeks on our home page. It is in our best interest to adhere to our part of the bargain and get those five reviews posted accordingly. Our member sponsors are extremely generous. They not only provide a cigar for a reviewer to review, but they quite often send something extra along as well. On top of this, they ship it to your door for free. And on top of everything else, they do it five times over. The very least a reviewer can do is to get the review in on time and communicate when they cannot.

You may have noticed that due dates are usually scheduled for one week before the actual posting day. This is because the reviews need to first be edited by our admins and then passed on to Paul to organize them with pics, headers and footers. Please allow us the time to do this work by submitting your reviews on time. In most cases we are well organized and make great efforts to ensure the cigar arrives at your door well in advance of the due date. We will continue our efforts to give the reviewer access to the review template as soon as possible.

The best way to avoid any neutral or negative feedback would be to communicate with either the sponsor or the coordinating admin before the deadline. It is not only imperative to the scheduled process, but mostly it is being respectful to the sponsors and those behind the scene working to get the reviews posted according to our commitments.

A special thanks goes out to all of our sponsors and reviewers. Your Geek Critique sponsorship and participation is greatly valued, assuredly appreciated, and an integral part of our successful community.

Thanks for all the effort that goes into the GC's. :smoker:

Very valid points.  A lot more than we probably realize goes into these, kudos to the admins for handling those.

There are not too many excuses that I would call good ones for missing the deadline.  You get free cigars and in plenty of time for a review.  I slipped ONCE and still got it in by the due date.  The sponsors, admins and Paul put their efforts in to make these happen, as a reviewer you should too.

Now that I added my $.02 I am off to smoke a cigar

Thanx for the reminder of the fact that it is a privilege to be picked to do a critique so if you want to keep the privilege do the work. Besides, how hard is it to look a cigar over and smoke it. I find it enjoyable, thus the reason I am here, and it is an honor to be picked, it shows some one values you're opinion enough to post it on the site for 2 week's. Or in my case that a volunteered enough they gave in to shut me up. Either way, thanx for the ones you have let me review and thanx to all the staff that keep's this place running. :respekt:
I am not concerned about what you think as I can tell you don't do it often.

Also, it is just the right thing to do. Thanks for posting this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Pete, but being sick would qualify for a delay.  It happens.

I would certainly think so!

But the reality of life is that 99% of the time, if you make a commitment, you follow through with it... I've been a Geek for some years now and I've seen very few problems.

I'm very much in support of using negative feedback so we know where the problems are.

Well stated. If you sign up for a review, you need to plan it into your schedule.

For sure being sick would qualify as a valid reason for missing a deadline...as long as it is communicated before hand. However, if one leaves the review to the very last day when they had weeks to smoke it, it seems that a little more effort could be made with personal scheduling so as not to be in a last day crunch.

That is a very good point.

I hear that!

Really bugged me to see one of the last reviewers ignore several PMs, then sign onto the site the day before posting date and still offer no excuse....

I really wanted to give poor feedback but, this rule was not in place at that time!

Can we make this retroactive?

I am guilty admittedly on the last one I did and the point is definitely taken and understood by all means. I did have some out of my control crap come up but I agree totally that these are a privilege and not a gift. I appreciate all that you admins do to keep this place rolling smoothly.

I think being selected to do a Greek Critique is an honor, and if accepted, an obligation. It's a shame to have to make more rules but necessary I guess. S..t happens but still an obligation to be performed. My 2 cents and thanks for all the work you Geeks do behind the scenes to make these Critiques available and enjoyed.

Here's the difference: you at least kept us in the loop on what was happening.  If we have communication from the reviewer, it goes a long way in keeping these running smoothly.

That isn't to say a person who submits a late review will get a free pass, but that person will get far more leniency than no communication at all.

I complerely agree and support this. I have only done one critique and we had plenty of time to get it done.
