Any of the mentioned malware removal tools will work but MUST be ran in safe mode (With Windows OS, press F8 key repeatedly at boot until you get a white on black screen, choose safe mode there) in order to get rid of a maximum of if not all malware present on the PC. Most of the malignant files will have running process under normal OS operation mode but in safe mode, since only critical processes and services are running, there is a better chance of catching and removing all malware since most of their file will not be in use when the scan and removal operations occur.
Some of these tools also have a prevention mechanism that can run at all time and prevent some malware to install. I went with Malwarebytes cause it's easy to use and straightforward enough that non technical people can still run it easily.
Sometimes with some browsers and or browser settings, you won't get the pop ups BUT it does not mean your computer is not infected by crap, only that there is a good popup blocker strategy.
