That is exactly what is going on here. All cigar site pop ups, I did notice quite a few Thompson ads popping up.

I am using Firefox, I tried the forums in Internet Exploder and Google Chrome too, no popups etc... Try deleting your temporary files and cookies then restart your browser.

There should absolutely be no pop ups.  Sound like your browser may have been infected by something or some other malware made its way on.

Also, there was a fake Java Update that was being pushed out by many sites recently that had this side affect.  Did you get a recent out of the blue suggestion to update Java on your computer?

Hmmm... not having that problem on a Mac.  The other suggestion I have is to turn the auto-update features off on application like Adobe and Java.  Only get them from their web sites.

Outside malware is usually the culprit and deleting cookies as well as doing a scan with your Virus Hunters and destroying them is something all of us need to do weekly and esp. for us who do a ton of searches on the Net.

Mojo66

It does sound like Malware but unfortunately, erasing cookies and temp files will do nothing if it is indeed malware.

Anybody with that problem should download this free software (Malwarebytes), install it, update it and then run it on the PC, in safe mode and all Malware will be gone.

It definitely sounds like malware.

If it's not frowned upon here you could try installing the Ad Block Pro extensions on your browser. Try Super AntiSpyware if Malwarebytes Anti-malware doesn't fix it.

I am running Firefox.  Haven't seen any popups.  Sounds like Malware.  Try Spybot Search and Destroy. www.safer-networking.org/

Any of the mentioned malware removal tools will work but MUST be ran in safe mode (With Windows OS, press F8 key repeatedly at boot until you get a white on black screen, choose safe mode there) in order to get rid of a maximum of if not all malware present on the PC. Most of the malignant files will have running process under normal OS operation mode but in safe mode, since only critical processes and services are running, there is a better chance of catching and removing all malware since most of their file will not be in use when the scan and removal operations occur.

Some of these tools also have a prevention mechanism that can run at all time and prevent some malware to install. I went with Malwarebytes cause it's easy to use and straightforward enough that non technical people can still run it easily.

Sometimes with some browsers and or browser settings, you won't get the pop ups BUT it does not mean your computer is not infected by crap, only that there is a good popup blocker strategy.
