Anyone seen this before:
http://www.bandwagonusa.com/

You send them your old cigar bands and you get get discounted merchandise from them.  Not sure it's really any kind of good deal, but it's interesting idea.

I wonder what they do will all the bands they get?

Scam is the first thing that pops into my head with this and other sites like it.  Could they be making counterfeit cigars???

ljlemer

My computer is blocking that website. I have software to block dangerous websites. I think I'll investigate the site on google.

Strange.  Yeah.. something fishy..

What logical reasons would anyone have for collecting bands except for reuse?  And, if that's the case, wouldn't the cigar maker ask for them back?

The bands themselves are worthless to them. It's a ploy to attract serious cigar smokers.

This is my 200th message. We will stop for a moment of silence.......OK. At ease.

I was homeless and then I found this place rent free. I know a bargain when I move into one.

Seems odd.  I looked all over the site and it would be nice if they stated what they do with the bands, otherwise I can't help but be suspicious as well.  The prices aren't even that good on some items.

Could be a basic scam and we're overlooking it.. maybe it's just what he said earlier.. and attempt to collect info on cigar smokers for spam purposes..

Selling personal info is a big business today..  all kinds of promotions and sites are set up to collect.. then they sell the info.

I sent them an email asking what they do with them all.  I'll let you know if they reply.  Should be interesting.

That was my other guess.  Basically a site to collect personal info from people for marketing purposes.

I am taking all my old bands and making a clock for my mantown.

Interesting idea.  But I agree, pretty suspect.  You have to wonder what their intentions are.  They can't possibly be making a lot of money off of cigar bands.  But what would such a focussed group of people (cigar smokers) really be worth?  Why not go after a larger audience whatever the intentions (i.e. bottlecaps, corks, etc...)

Well unless you're a penny pincher, the average cigar smoker does spend more on a cigar than others spend on a bottled drink or etc., and cigars are a luxury which can sometimes be very expensive.  So.. maybe it does make sense to target them?

From a pure $$$ perspective we probably spend more on cigars than a bottle of beer (although I may smoke 1 cigar and drink 6 or more beers on a weekend.)  Plus a bottle of wine on average is probably more than a typical cigar purchase (maybe not - who knows - but it's comparable.)

I was thinking more purely from a total population.  Cigar smokers are in the minority of the most other "sins" like cigarettes, alcohol, etc... Maybe they should target the porn hounds out there

Oh, they already have everyone covered, no matter your interests.  SPAM is big business.  That's why they hire programmers to write trojans and spyware and adware and etc.

Who's to say they don't have many sites catering to different clientele? You know, they could just be a cigar outlet looking for a trick to attract customers. Just that simple.

I finally heard back from them.  A representative replied that all the cigars are destroyed.  Very strange.  I replied asking why the ask for them to begin with then.

Like I said, it's a sales ploy. It grabs your attention. Every cigar smoker has labels to spare.
They make it seem like you're getting a special discount, but their prices are not special.
