I'll kick this thing off...

Hi Folks.  My name is Paul and I live in Southern Maryland in a little town called Chesapeake Beach right on the bay.  I have been smokin cigars for about 10 years and find it a great way to relax after work and getting the kids (2 little boys - 2 1/2 and 8 months old) to bed.  My fave everydays right now are probably a Macanudo Maduro.  I keep switchin though.  Next month it will be different...maybe back to that sweet Hoyo de Monterrey Rothschild :confused:

I am the owner of CigarGeeks.com and have been working on this baby off and on for a fews years as kind of a hobby, 2nd to smokin cigars of course.  I work in the computer field - used to be a developer and do primarily design work nowadays.  In order to keep my old skills sharp and further my cigar hobby, I decided to build this site.  We'll see where it goes.

Aside from the standard forums that most sites have, I wrote a few other pieces that make this place unique.  There is a Cigar Database that currently has nearly 5000 cigars in it.  I plan to keep adding more over time and decided to let members add them as well.  Please submit them.  I'll get an email when you submit them and then take a look at them and add them after a quick review.  And speaking of reviews, the database allows us to store reviews of cigars we have smoked.

Another unique feature is the online humidor.  This allows gives you a place to keep track of your cigars in your collection.  You can also make it public if you desire and show them off to other folks.  You can create a wish list in your virtual humidor that people can refer to for gift ideas.  Check it out...see what you think.

The last but not least unique feature to CigarGeeks.com is the Box Pass system.  I have participated in some cigar passes in my time and find them to be a lot of fun.  Being of an analytical mind I thought to myself...how could you create a system that makes managing one easier - and came up with the Box Pass system you see here.  It wound up being the most complicated and time consuming part of the site to build :rolleyes: but should make box passes easy.

Well that's enough about me...:snoring:

Cheers,
-Paul

Only 1 Welcome to the CG Captain?

That's because there were less than 2 dozen semi-active members at that point in time.  Seems to be a few more members now . . . this place shows promise! I think I'll stick around.

Welcome, Paul.

Welcome! :cigarman:

Here's your "unoffical" :welcome: kit!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Answers to frequently asked questions:
The vast amount of aficianados on this forum leave the cigar wrappers on their cigars. :smoker:
Many like a v-cut versus a straight cut, and many use kitty litter to stabilize the humidity in their humidors, but the Boveda humi-paks and Heartfelt beads are also well liked.
Xikar hygrometers (note the "g" and not a "d" in hygrometer) are frequently recommended on this forum. If you ask how to calibrate one, you'll get pointed to Google.
Lighters are all over the board with many opting for the cost effective Ronson butane jet lighters while others prefer Xikars, large table top lighters, cedar spills, matches, car lighters, blow torches, fire pits - pretty much anything that's on fire.
Any science related questions about relative humidity and temperature have been discussed ad nauseum.  But, if you feel the urge to ask, ignore what everyone posts except Jackal - he's the resident scientist. :respekt:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Insights into the Cigar Geeks communty:

Any thread that starts with "NSFW" gets tons of views during working hours and when one of the resident gurus named Bob posts one of his infrequent "getting everyone caught up on what Bob's been doing" thread you'll get plenty of :lmao: responses.

Don't post anything about ISOM's anywhere but the ISOM thread.  Otherwise, you'll get a bunch of  non-sensical responses.  :confused:   Cuban cigars are illegal in the U.S. :shades:

Please resize your pictures before posting so you don't fire-up the curmudgeons on this site.  :hityou:

"Bombs" are not bombs, but gifts.  Some on here refer to them as "kisses".  Whatever you call them, it is not polite to broadcast you're sending a bomb(s) or solicit to be bombed.  :nono:  Doing the latter will subject you to a mailbox full of dog rockets and a lifetime of ridicule here. :shamebag:  You are, however, encouraged to acknowledged being bombed and there's a thread for doing just that.

Hopefully, you like to see pictures of midget pole dancers - those pop up from time to time. :-0

Passes are generally off limits to new folks until you have a few posts under your belt or have a veteran vouch for you.  Same with selling, buying, or trading - you'll be expected to execute your end of the transaction first until you gain the confidence of some of the members.  If you plan to do any of this, best to get a PooPal account if you don't already have one.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi of the site is Señor Pablo - when he speaks, we listen.  :bow:

PIF's (Pay It Forward) are a great way to earn credibility here.  There's several threads devoted to them. Just be sure to read the ground rules before jumping in or review the extensive threads to get an idea of what they're about.

If disagreements occur, the Gurus usually come through with sage advice - heed their warnings as they carry a lot of power (well, we let them think that anyway :whistle:).

Please consider joining CRA if you are not already a member - it gets you a cool badge that shows up under your name on posts. :thumbsup:  Another easy way to earn a badge is to support the "Cigars for Troops" event that usually occurs in the early Fall.  :usa:

Finally, welcome to our community - in the end, it's about the enjoyment of cigars and pipes, developing friendships with others who share common interests and passions, and enhancing your knowledge of our hobby!!!

This has been a most enlightening site for sure, even if it has cost me about $10,000.00 extra over the years....... :?:

Before I seen the resurrection I was going to tell Paul that his geek math was off, on a bad way... But now I see that the database has grown to 10 times it's size in 10 years.  Thanks Paul!  I think the site is turning out quite well

Thanx for creating this site Paul.
I am not concerned about what you think as I can tell you don't do it often.

Wow...that was nearly 9 years ago.  A lot has changed...certainly my taste in cigars. :-)  I like to think I have a bit more refined taste these days even if a bit limited.  I had a 3 year old son and now have 3 kids.  Had a job where I was primarily responsible for myself, and now spend my time worrying about the teams under me.  Had sooo much spare time back them.  Now try to figure out how to get the kids to all their activities/sports/friends and then collapse at night.  I wouldn't change a thing though.  I guess its just an evolution of sorts.  But through it all, this place has been my haven.  Just a place I find comfort (when i'm not dealing with server and hosting issues :-))  So you are all very welcome and I owe you just as much thanks for making this community what it is.  I only wish I had more time to spend with you guys, but i'm trying to carve out more.
