Ordered a 601 Serie sampler from CI yesterday that included the following

601 Serie 5-Star Sampler Includes:
1 - 601 Red Robusto (5" x 50)
1 - 601 Blue Robusto (5" x 50)
1 - 601 Green Robusto (5" x 50)
1 - 601 Brown Robusto (5" x 50)
1 - 601 Black Robusto (5" x 50)

I know red blue and green have been around as long as I have known 601. The Black I thought was discontinued several years ago and the Brown I have never heard of. A google search on 601 brown yielded virtually nothing. The maker Espinosa cigar website has been "coming soon" for ages so nothing can be found there.

Anybody know anything about the reintro of the Black and the new Brown

I have found the red, green, & blue to be good middle of the road cigars.  IMHO not box worthy but should keep a couple around.  I have not tried the brown or black

Wonder if the Brown label is a remake of the old Gold label since all of the bands have a lot of shiny gold on them and the old Gold label had a brown background as well.

I picked up a box of 601 Black cigars a few years ago after they were discontinued. It was a sweet connecticut wrapper I recall. The Red Green and Blue all have a place in my heart depending on what I am feeling any particular day.. But all 601 serie are more stellar after aging. I got 2x 40 count boxes of green coronas every cello was yellow.. Best damn coronas I ever had! If the brown is not that FSS "brass monkey," never heard of it. The construction on them is piss poor. Got a gold band on the foot, no cigar band. Only 601 that ever pissed me off even though it was a free bonus LOL!

In response to smokin surfer, i have smoked many brass monkey's including last night and the construction has been no issue. Maybe you just got a bad batch.

I actually spoke to Erik Espinosa and he informed that the Brown label is new and was done in response to an FDA issue that he lost me on the explanation. After aging a little while I will post a review in the near future.

By the way the Laranja Reserve is the best cigar IMHO that Espinosa makes.

The Black was discontinued as a general release and, for a time, made exclusively for West Coast Cigars of San Jose, CA.  They sold it under the name "Evil Clown".

Maybe Espinoza decided to bring it back now that he is on his own.

Thanks for joining the conversation, Hector.  As you can see, we have a question about the new Brown Label.  Why was it made?  What is the blend?  What is the strength?  Is it only available at CI, or other places too?

Please post that info in this forum. We're Cigar Geeks, we want to know everything!
