Random quote: "While smoking a cigar, we are in the presence of eternity. The tobacco reminds us of the earth, from which it and we came. As with ourselves, the life of some cigars are short, while others last a while longer, but in the end all are consumed. But the smoke, ah, the smoke! The smoke drifts gently heavenward on its quest to combine with the great eternal oneness." -Prince Sined Yar Maharg

It is definitely HTF here in Chicago. You are at the mercy of the store selling it as well so be careful. You should be able to get it close to $100 a bottle, most retailers will say its $150, but don hesitate to just offer them $100. It is one of the only times alcohol is negotiable.

I have a contact in the US, the same one that hooked me up with the hibaki. Will see if he can get and at what price.

Toby if I could find a work around on the shipping I would gladly send you a bottle. The postal service here sucks in a major way.

It is sublime. The best part is, Hakushu is not one of the more well known whisky's so it is an excellent bottle that can be had for a good price.

Yamazaki 12 is great single malt. A nice sweetness, similar to a Highland Scotch. 5 years ago I was getting it for $55/bottle. Then the secret got out.

Hakushu 12 is anoher good single malt. Gently smoky. Clean finish

Hibiki Harmony is also very good blended whisky. Its a blend of Japanese malt and grain whiskies from Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita. It focuses on focuses on the malt from Yamazaki.

All 3 are made by Suntory Whiskey.

Recommendation: Suntory Whisky Toki is what I have been drinking a lot of lately. It is also a blend of Japanese malt and grain whiskies from Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita. But this one highlights the Hakushu malt, aged in American oak, so it has a little more smoke, but nothing overpowering, and still has some sweetness and a bit of spice. It goes for $36/bottle around here, and makes a great pairing with a cigar! A terrific value for a blend of this caliper.

And for something sweeter, more like an Irish Whisky, try Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky. A nice, viscous mouth feel that coats your tongue. About $55 here. This one does not pair well with cigars, though.
