A few minutes ago Nicaraguan President/dictator Daniel Ortega announced that there was a withdrawal of the reforms to the Nicaraguan Institute of Social Security (INSS), which were issued on April 16 and which have caused 6 days of continuous protests and deaths.

Good news for the folks in Esteli that the dictator Ortega withdrew his proposal.   A series of protests in Nicaragua that have turned violent has reached the city of Estelí. Telenorte, a news agency covering the city of Estelí, has reported that two university students were killed during the protests. Estelí is the epicenter of the Nicaraguan cigar industry.

The protests started after Nicaragua’s National Social Security Institute (INSS) instituted a 5% tax that increased the contributions by both employers and employees in Nicaragua. The government has said this was necessary because the system is on the verge of collapse.        https://cigar-coop.com/2018/04/cigar-news-nicaraguan-protests-spread-into-esteli.html
