Cigar Pass Etiquette by Jackal

CIGAR PASS ETIQUETTE

So, you have been invited to a pass. Here are some things to remember:

General Pass Operations:

The pass moderator has very limited abilities. He can approve new people to join, remove people and change the pass order. That is about it. He cannot add people without them putting in a request, alter what is in the cigar inventory or do other changes to the pass. These higher level changes have to be done by the CG administrators.
It is bad form to hold onto the pass for too long. If possible, try and plan your puts and takes before the box gets to you. You should not hold onto the pass for more than 3 days under normal circumstances.
If you are going to be out of town when the pass is scheduled to come your way, let the moderator know. Then things can be scheduled accordingly.
If you are moving, let us know and make sure that the site has your correct address listed in the pass.

Puts and Takes

Try and put in cigars of at least equal value as you take. Don't just go by price. Three $4 cigars do not equal one $12 cigar. When you make that kind of substitution, all you have done is diluted the quality of the pass and added more shipping weight.
Try and value the cigars by both cost and availability. If a cigar was $8 three years ago and cannot be found anymore, then it is probably worth more than a $8 cigar. Also, just because a Cuban cigar might be $4 when you buy them by the box, don't take that cigar and replace it with a readily available $4 Nicaraguan.
Don't look at a pass as a place to dump your beat up, moldy or beetle holed sticks.
Don't cherry pick out all of the quality and rare stuff unless you are going to replace the sticks with some super cigars of even better quality and rarity. Think about the next guys down the line and if they would appreciate your takes.
If you appreciate the efforts of the moderator setting up the pass, then tip him. Throw in an extra stick to show your appreciation.
