In a B&M do you smell a cigar before deciding to buy it?  How about smelling a cigar before lighting?

I used to many moons ago both in a BM and at home. I do not do it in a BM anymore.  I do not do it at home when I'm smoking a stick I've smoked before. The only time I still take a whiff is when I'm doing a Geek Critique.

I always smell a cigar before lighting it. A cigars aroma is, to me, typically erotic, and smelling the cigar is very enjoyable to me. Much of my pleasure when smoking cigars has to do with smells. I do not want competing (intrusive) smells during a smoke. A few years back, at the cigar lounge that I smoke in, they started using something scented when cleaning. I spoke to the manager about it, he understood right away and had it corrected.

I'm with Kevin on this. Smelling the wrapper and foot is a part of my prelight.
I am not concerned about what you think as I can tell you don't do it often.

There is something about the aroma of a really good cigar before you light it, almost erotic (and here we go with the comments.....)

I do not pick up a cigar at a B&M unless I plan on buying it, especially ones w/o cellos. I don't think it is proper B&M etiquette, besides I don't know where you hands have been.  I do smell my cigar if it is something new (sent to me) and in most all cases do a prelight draw.

Like some if its a cigar that I haven't smoked before I smell it. I don't smell them at a B&M just for the fact as stated not good etiquette.

Most cigars are already handled by about 3-6 people during the rolling and packaging process.

That's enough hands on a cigar unless you wanna buy it~! (Although, I get a kick from the guys that sniff through the cello)

However, one  should always enjoy that cold draw or whiff from the foot before lighting...... :smoker:

I always smell a cigar before lighting.  It's an automatic presmoke impulse for me.  I never smell a cigar at the B&M.  That's just not right.  The way I see it at the B&M, you smell it....you buy it.
