The most economical option is a coolidor/igloodor/tuperdor. Get any airtight container, throw some Boveda humidity packs in it, and you have yourself a nice bit of storage. Then as you get an idea of how many you buy and smoke, you can find something for longer term like what you mentioned.
When I was starting out, I wish I had gone this route. You save your money for cigars. IMHO, buying a really good cutter, a draw tool, and a nice lighter are better investments as you get into this hobby.
