Hey guys (and gals) my plan was simple, go to a few garage sales and pickup a used hot air corn popper for using to roast coffee beans. I figured there had to be a few of them at garage sales..... Well, I found dishes, a vacuum, cup and saucer, and a key fob all for other people, but no hot air popper. Now I'm out $45.00 and still no popper !!!

So, here's my question, does anyone have an old hot air corn popper they wanna get rid of ??  :-)

I can either pay cash money, or pay in cigars  : )

Armin,
That would be terrific !  I hate going out and buying a new one if there is one not being used somewhere.

I can send you money for it and shipping costs,

either let me know here, or send me a private message on the details

Thanks !!

Ken I'm glad you'll get some use out of it, for as long as it's been sitting around the house.  I'm just glad you weren't asking for a car or something, 'cause who knows what a guy might do for a cigar ...

I bet hes drying out weed with it!

 :shades:

Nope, i think it would fly out of the popper anyway, coffee beans and popcorn kernels are a lot heavier then weed is  :shades:

So, I got the hot air popper in the amil today, and tested it out..... to make popcorn. Dang, the thing worked pretty good for popcorn, I wonder if a coffee bean cooker can pop popcorn that well ??

Anyhow, I found a guy at my local coffee shop that is willing to sell me some "green beans"  green coffee beans that is, so on Saturday I will be picking up some to try out my "roasting skills".

Will let you know how this goes........

Cool! I'm glad it got there in good condition.  If your roasting adventures work out, maybe I can find something else laying around the house to trade for some freshly roasted beans!

I have three hot air poppers that are all in use....I am a big fan of hot air popped popcorn and keep one at the cottage one at home and one in Florida.

I just noticed that the IGA (big chain supermarket up here) has a huge variety of green coffee beans to choose from. You buy them right out of the sack. It's a big display with a huge commercial roaster and grinder right behind it. You can roast and grind your choice of beans right on the spot. Go figure, I don't even drink coffee.

Hey Ken, the package arrived safe and sound today. You kinda over-paid - not that I'm complaining or anything ... thanks buddy!. There's karma in this place, and when you pay it forward, you can be sure it will come back 'round. I'm really hoping that popper does a great job on the beans, and lasts for a few years for you  :-)

Armin, glad to hear you got the package, and also that you were happy with what I sent you. In my mind, you did me a big favor stepping forward and offering your popper, I gave you in return a package of cigars, for your trouble. Karma, and paying forward, it's a good way to live I think ! (in this case, by friend, we both payed forward)

I am getting some beans tomorrow, and will fire up the popper by Sunday..... if I survive the drinking stage of the coffee  experiment, I'll post my findings.

I'm interested in how it goes.  Every morning, I drive near a local coffee company that roasts beans, and it is probably one of the best smells in the world.

I use to drive by a doughnut factory in the DFW area on the way to work... I would put that up there, too.   :shades:

Just an update on my Coffee Roasting.

Have been roasting coffee and drinking it for about a month now. I have made 4 different coffees in many small roasting batches.

Columbian
Sumatra
Paupa new guinnea
Mexican

I am hooked !  it's like the difference between instant coffee and real ground coffee !

I Shared the "home roasted" coffee beans with  8 people so far.
4 of them said it was the smoothest coffee (read that no bitterness) they ever had.
2 people commented the ground coffee didn't smell like folgers or maxwell house at all.... they thought it smelled earthy, and too pungent. But they liked the flavor of the coffee.
2 people have asked me to sell them some of my home roasted coffee.

No one so far has said the home roasted coffee tastes bad, or "no different" from a store bought coffee.

I think I'm on to something here.

Oh, let me tell you about the pairing of a nice cigar..... and a cup of home roasted coffee. It's the BEST !!!
