If there is anyone in the Atlanta area or within driving distance, I've heard that this event is THE event in Georgia.  If you decide to go, shoot me a PM.

That sounds awesome.

I've never been, so I'm really hoping to make it this year.  For the past two years, I've had something come up...

Sounds like a good time.  Unfortunately, I am nowhere near GA.

Sounds like a good event!  We have the Cigar Heritage festival this weekend in Ybor city, will pop in for a few anyway:

I live about 20 miles from there and it appears that the weather will cooperate that day...78 degree forecast.  Looks like a perfect day to ride the motorcycle and go look at some cigars.

So, after missing it the last few years, I finally made it to this event.  Here is a recap:

I showed up about 11 am and had trouble finding a parking space.  There was a $10 entrance fee, which I thought was silly at first, but I quickly changed my mind.  They had a tent set up outside with a band playing, and there was beer/wine table with some rather attractive young ladies pouring as much as you want.  At that point, there were probably a couple hundred people there.  I went inside to check out the humidor, and I've never seen that many reps in one place at one time (15+).  Not only that, but as I walked through, I met Pete Johnson, Rocky Patel, and Wayne Saurez.  Since it was starting to get rather packed, I made my selections and left the walk-in, then stepped outside for a cigar.

At this point, they were serving lunch - barbeque pork, fried turkey, lobster, and tons of sides.  It was quite a spread and all of it was excellent.  They were also doing raffles this whole time, and when I say raffles, I mean hundreds of them.  Every five to ten minutes, they would pull 6 raffle tickets.  Prizes included swag, humidors, ashtrays, cigars, accessories - you name it.  They did the raffles from the moment I got there until I left four hours later. :shades:

So I drank a few beers, talked with some people I knew from the B&Ms I frequent (Excel was there), and ended up hanging with Pete Johnson for a little while.  He is actually not what I expected - he was very down to earth and generally a cool guy.  Since we were watching the Michigan vs Wisconsin game, I also talked football briefly with Rocky (he's from Wisconsin).

At that point, I was on my third cigar and hadn't won any of the raffles, so I decided to call it a day.  All in all, it was a cool event, but it was so crowded it made the whole atmosphere uncomfortable.  If I had to guess, they probably had 1000+ people there over the course of the day, possibly closer to 1500.

Oh, and since everything in the store was 25% off, I walked away with:

Liga Privada T52 "Flying Pig"
Drew Estate Double Signature Reserve
Illusione 2
Illusione HL
Box of Oliva V Maduro 2010

Total cost - just over $100. ;-)

Glad you had a good time.  Sounds pretty cool other than the large crowd.  I don't do crowds very well but it sounds like it was worth it.

Sounds like i should have talked to you that morning and gotten there sooner Nate.

I didn't know I missed the lobster! *lol* In addition to Pete, I also met Marvin
from Blue Mountain Cigars! Fella's those guys make some AMAZING
smokes and they're very affordable to boot! I'm not even much of a
Conneticut smoker, but I SWEAR it beats both Ashton & Macanudo HANDS DOWN!

and the box of torps is only $80.00! Marvin handed me one and said try this...
i was in cigar heaven for at least 2hrs!

I must say, Pete Johnson is very down to earth and cool as hell! He's also
very generous. A woman was bidding on an all expense paid trip down to
Naples w/ Rocky Patel, and if she bid up to 2500 she got to drive Rocky's
Bentley all day! Well, she bid to 2300 and Pete chipped in the extra 200
so that she qualified for the bentley! Class act in my book!
If smoking cigars is on the Darkside, I don't ever
want to see the light!!!

Sounds like a fantastic event (maybe TOO fantastic considering the size of the crowd).

Sounds really cool.  To bad, like most of us, I won't be anywhere near Atlanta at that time.
I'm right 98% of the time.  Who cares about the other 3%?

Sounds like it was a really cool event, and very impressive that they could get that many big names out to it.

Nathan, that's a great deal on those cigars too ... can't do that good even with sales on the net.

Excel, you have me curious about Blue Mountain Cigars now. By their website, it appears that they really only do one blend, but have a few dipped tips. Did you get a dipped one or the un-dipped one?  http://www.bluemountaincigars.com/ Unfortunately their "Buy" buttons are duds (there's no link in the HTML), and google doesn't bring up any online sellers. How much are they? I don't usually go for dipped cigars, but if you say they are that good, I'd be interested in trying them out.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em

Post some pictures if you have them...

No pictures here.  I took my camera, but it was kind of expensive, and I didn't want to get bumped and drop it.  That was a distinct possiblity with that many people...
