Humidor time: 139 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 63, foot - 59
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a moderately firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of rich tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a spicy retro and notes of rich wood, spice, and a hint of coffee. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful and rich with plenty of spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (32/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from the Privada CC shop when they were having a sale awhile back. The Bluegrass Boys CC are, according to my vague impression, one of a number of regional cigar clubs loosely affiliated with Privada which allows Privada access to sticks that they've had made for themselves.  These sticks show up in the PCC shop and are available for purchase and I scooped up several of them during the aforementioned sale so there will be more such sticks getting reviewed here shortly... At any rate, this one was a fine smoke with both flavors and construction checking all the right boxes and I'd definitely smoke it again being the fan of Nicaraguan habano blends that I am. (32/35)

Barber pole wrapper thick Toro. Multiple different fillers give it a unique flavor profile. Mostly woody and spice. Well constructed with a little tightness in draw 1st third. Overall a good smoke.

Firm, chocolate brown wrapper, one small vein & decent oils.  PLA sweet wood with a hint of barn; PLT slightly fruity earth; PLD moderate.  A longish toast & light, a moderate draw, an effortless burn, & mineral-tinged earth smoke.  Openers are earth, some nice minerals & very little spice in mouth & retro.  The strength is medium.  The earth & minerals rule the 1/3.  While this is basically a one-note cigar there are hints of wood & coffee bean over its course.  The flavors are pleasant throughout, the finish is very light & the promised full body never happens; it's medium at best.  While no flavor bomb it is quite enjoyable to smoke.

Humidor time: 138 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 62, foot - 57
Appearance and construction: A couple minor veins, no sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately tight. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of mild tobacco. The light gave a medium-bodied profile with a spicy retro and notes of light wood and spice. The spice in the nose faded after a few puffs with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note and this was decently tasty with enough spice in the mix to keep things mostly interesting but nothing unusual or amazing for a conny blend. Strength was about medium. (28/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. Things were then uneventful down to the nub with draw and smoke output remaining optimal throughout. (20/20)

Overall impression: This one came from the Privada CC shop when they were having a sale awhile back. Pretty nice morning smoke although, as mentioned, it didn't quite blow my socks off as the flavors were kind of typical and average for a conny blend. Good enough to smoke again, though. (30/35)

Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, and a firm pack with no soft spots... Gave it a double shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately tight. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a slightly spicy retro and notes of rich dark wood, coffee, and spice. The spice in the nose faded quickly with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note but this was very flavorful with a very rich aspect and just enough spice in the mix to keep things interesting throughout. Strength was about medium. (33/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced a moderately easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn stayed even through the first third with the ash falling at 1 1/4" leaving a small cone. The burn continued a bit wavily but self-correcting through the 2nd third and things were otherwise uneventful down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. It was a slow-burning stick for its size, clocking in at just shy of two hours from light to nub.(19/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Small Batch as one of their COTM selections awhile back. No info about where this one was made but my guess would be somewhere in the Dominican given the flavor profile. A very tasty stick indeed with near perfect construction and I'd definitely smoke it again. (32/35)

2020 TAA Release:  Firm, dark brown wrapper, no veins & a good oil sheen.  PLA a bit of graham; PLT grass & graham; PLD easy.  An easy toast, light & draw, an even burn & a wood & leather smoke.  Leather, oak, a bit of earth & a touch of spice start off.  Strength is upper medium.  The oak has the lead in the beginning w/the other notes falling back.  What spice there is backs down early.  A bit of black coffee tinged with bitter chocolate appears around the 1/2.  The coffee picks up a bit on the back side but the wood continues to lead & is a bit bitter at times.   The finish is mostly wood & coffee with hints of toast.  The body is upper medium.  Okay but not overly impressive.

Humidor time: 152 days
Humidimeter reading: Head - 66, foot - 59
Appearance and construction: A few veins, a light sheen, box-pressed, pin-striping with a stripe of darker wrapper around mostly lighter-shade wrapper, and a moderately soft pack with no soft spots... Gave it a single shallow V-cut and PLD was moderately open. (8/10)

Flavor: PLA gave a whiff of tobacco. The light gave a medium/full profile with a slightly spicy retro and notes of wood and coffee, and a hint of spice. The spice in the nose faded quickly with the other flavors staying consistent throughout. No transitions to note and this was decently tasty but it missed my wheelhouse by a bit due to the relative lack of spice in the mix. Strength was about medium. (26/35)

Smoking characteristics: The light produced an easy draw, good smoke volume, and an even burn to start. The burn got wavy through the first third but managed to self-correct itself prior to the first ashing at 1" which left no cone behind. The burn continued wavily into the 2nd third, then got lopsided and a touch-up was needed. Things then continued more or less uneventfully through the remainder and down to the nub. Draw and smoke output remained optimal throughout. (17/20)

Overall impression: This one came from Small Batch as one of their COTM selections awhile back. Decent enough smoke but the flavors were a bit lacking and construction was a bit iffy in the first half or so.  Good enough to smoke again but I wouldn't buy more of these. No idea what "Wojtek" means or refers to and too lazy to research it but hopefully it's more interesting than the cigar was... (27/35)

By: druid (04/19/2024 10:59 AM)
Fairly firm, slightly BPd, a bit of float, tan wrapper, loose spot on cap, no veins & decent oils.  PLA faint grass & hay; PLT faint grass & hay; PLD airy.  A pretty easy toast & light, an airy draw, an even burn, & an earth & hay smoke.  Openers are earth, hay, a bit of pepper & some earthier spices.  The flavor strength is medium.  The 1st 1/3 brings some sweet wood.  The pepper is a mix of black & white.  Coffee bean appears in the 2nd 1/3 & though the palate is quite earthy, the finish is very creamy.  The last 1/3 is a good combo of flavors with that smooth & creamy finish,  The body is medium or so.  An excellent Connecticut.

Limited release for 2023. Overall appearance is good with main and foot bands. Cold draw was tight. Combustion was good and draw continued semi, but this autocorrected after several puffs. Medium to medium plus profile with notes of espresso and chocolate. Long finish with solid ash and pleasant aroma. The initial draw issue was only blemish on this superb cigar.
