The Hype:
This is a new cigar to be available for sale in January. It will be sold in a variety of shapes and with a variety of wrappers. It is a product of Tabacos de Costa Rica, a factory producing fine cigars for quite a few boutique brands. This cigar and others to follow will be made under their own brand.

This cigar was enjoyed with Water

Pre-Light: 15 Points of 20 Possible

The Olman is a nice looking cigar overall. Lighter Brown wrapper with visible veins and seams. The double cap is applied nicely. The wrapper is smooth and has a slight shine. The cigar has some firm shots throughout. The color of the wrapper is complimented by the double band.

Light & Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

Clipping the cap was easy. The cut was clean with no tearing. The cigar had an uneven burn but it didn't require correction. The ash was slightly flaky and held for about 3/4". Smoke output was adequate but not overwhelming. Burn time was 90 minutes.

Construction: 15 Points of 30 Possible

The cigar was smooth, the seams were clearly visible and the veins were more prominent than others. The cap was applied nicely. Draw was horrible. I cut twice and used a poker to no avail. The draw never relaxed.

Flavor: 10 Points of 35 Possible

The wrapper had a smell of sawdust. The for presented sweet tobacco. Not very complex. Throughout the entire smoke was the overwhelming taste of cedar with underlying citrus rind.  Very bitter aftertaste that lasted for approximately 2 hours after finishing the cigar.

Summary

I didn't enjoy this cigar.  The construction was lacking.  A difficult draw may have affected the flavor.  I'd buy another to give this a try again to see if a more open draw would help the flavors.  As it was, the cedar taste was so strong that I had to search for any other flavor. If you enjoy an abundance of cedar with a long-lasting bitter aftertaste then you will want to give this cigar a shot.
