Cigar Geeks Geek Critique

Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust Todos Las Dias Robusto

Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  This one has been generously sponsored by our member DonM (Don).  The cigar provided for this round is the Todos Las Dias Robusto from Dunbarton Cigars.

"Todos Las Dias is my personal Spanglish translation meaning “All the Days.” The workers at Joya de Nicaraguan often cringe at my casual butchering of their mother tongue, but in my opinion cigars are far more than a grammar lesson to abide, they are the physical manifestation of a feeling and of an experience. TLD embodies the classic bold flavors that represent the heart of their soil’s peppery tobaccos and the labor of their always working hands. For me, this spicy Nicaraguan puro reflects no pretentious airs or any of that “notes of pencil lead with a hint of fennel” nonsense. It is an honest, hardworking cigar intended to be smoked by men who know what it means to be a cigar smoker and never give a damn about what others think."
- Steve Saka, creator of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust

Todos Las Dias is the strongest cigar to date from Dunbarton, using a high-priming, Nicaraguan puro blend that showcases Jalapa and Estelíano tobaccos in the filler, a Nicaraguan binder, and a Cuban-seed, Nicaraguan wrapper. This blend has been specially chosen to highlight the fiery, bold qualities of Nicaragua’s intense, volcanic soil. And Steve has specifically blended TLD to begin on the mellow side—slowly ramping up to the Nicaraguan powerhouse experience that diehard, experienced smokers crave! This is the complete reversal from the usual blending style of starting with a bang before mellowing in the later portions of the smoke.

This cigar was enjoyed with Coffee & Topo Chico

Pre-Light: 19 Points of 20 Possible

Beautiful dark brown wrapper that's on the dry side. There is one prominent vein towards the back third, but overall the cigar is smooth. The cap is expertly applied, and the cannon is well packed with just the right amount of give. V cut was easy going, and the aroma off the foot was sweet, rich tobacco. The simple, yet elegant silver and black band looks great against the wrapper.

Light & Burn: 15 Points of 15 Possible

Burn was spot on the entire smoke. Ash was solid, holding on in one inch chunks. The ash was grayish white with subtle striping. Burn rate was nice n slow, and I did not relight once. The smoke volume was full, very full!

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

The draw was absolutely perfect, with just the right amount of resistance. The wrapper was well applied, despite one vein located at the bottom third of the cigar. The cap stayed intact throughout the entire smoke.

Flavor: 32 Points of 35 Possible

This cigar starts of with lots of rich tobacco, very spicy, yet smooth, along with a nice cedar hint. The retrohale early on is strong, like burning the nose and making my eyes tear strong! The half point finds a nice coffee bean flavor, the pepper subsides, and the retrohale is now smooth n tasty. Love it! The finish is nice n easy, with a bit of cedar sweetness, black coffee and more rich tobacco. The aftertaste is really nice, and is super smooth. The changes were not complex, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

Summary

The Todos Las Dias is a wonderful cigar smoking experience. Rich, smooth n tasty tobacco, and a great retrohale...after the first third is done! I would consider this a box worthy cigar for sure. Thank you to my geek brother Don for allowing me the opportunity to review this cigar. Top notch my friends!
