Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  This one has been generously sponsored by our member bstessl (Brian).  This particular round was run as a blind review.  Each member received the exact same stick and none of them knew what it was.  So without further ado, the stick that was reviewed was the Punch Gran Puro Nicaragua 5.5 x 54.

The Hype:
Nothing short of a flavorful, this Nicaraguan handmade at General Cigar’s HATSA factory in Danlí, Honduras. Wrapped with a dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf and brimming with Nicaraguan binder and long-fillers. Medium to full-bodied, you can expect to be met with a deep earthiness nuances with a hint of leather and a slight spice.

This cigar was enjoyed with water

Pre-Light: 15 Points of 20 Possible

This cigar had a nice dark maduro color to it. the barrel was firm and no soft spots. There was minimal veining. When cutting the cap it cut clean, however there was some sort of feather that had been rolled into the cigar.

Light & Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar toasted up nicely. The draw was nice but smoke volume was almost not there it took three good pull to get some smoke. However it did start producing nicely after a bit. I had to touch it up only twice during the smoke.

Construction: 25 Points of 30 Possible

Overall this cigar was well made, looked good, beside the feather in the top when cutting the cap and the tuff time I had getting it to produce any smoke at the beginning it was good. The wrapper had a nice dryness to it, but still was a bit rough looking.

Flavor: 26 Points of 35 Possible

The cigar had a strong leather tang to it along with some woody and an earthiness to it. It also had a times a slight white pepper taste. The cigar didn't change much through out the smoke. I felt it was medium to full with it getting really full towards the end.

Summary

This cigar had its moments but it was not offensive. If I was to guess what it was the only thing that comes to mind is a Brick house fuma. This cigar would probably would find someplace in my humi.
