Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  This one has been generously sponsored by our member ninfiction (Brian).  The cigar provided for this round is the Viaje Skull and Bones M?stery BP 2018.

There is not a lot know about this one but here is what was published by Halfwheel - "The star of the show is the Viaje Skull and Bones M?stery BP 2018, the first M?stery release since 2015. The company declined to disclose any further details about the cigar, but it’s listed as “BP” a likely sign that it is box-pressed.

This cigar was enjoyed with Sprecher Ginger Beer

Pre-Light: 20 Points of 20 Possible

Slight oily sheen, smooth well constructed stick with a nice box press. Pre Light aroma of barnyard, sweet cocoa and leather notes. Construction is top notch. Cap takes a straight cut very well and cigar has zero soft spots.

Light & Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

Closed foot took flame well burn was not perfect but good enough not to require any touch ups as it always corrected itself prior to getting out of hand. Ash was a bit flaky so I did end up wearing a bit of it thru the smoke.

Construction: 30 Points of 30 Possible

Construction was basically flawless, draw was spot on. The wrapper was perfect and cap beautifully applied on this box press beauty. This is the how every premium cigar should be constructed. Another great Viaje cigar.

Flavor: 34 Points of 35 Possible

1/2: 1st puff = SPICY, right out of the gate this cigar is not messing around and showing some punch. Full bodied with red pepper, leather and tasty tobacco.
2/2: Halfway point a "pleasant" slight metallic flavor comes in and the pepper fades a bit to where the retrohale isn't painful anymore. Then a few minutes later BAM the red pepper is back and coninues to fade in and out thru the remainder of the smoke.

Summary

Big thanks to Brian for supplying this great cigar for us to review. I am a big Viaje fan and this does not disappoint. Great full and spicy cigar with the Viaje traits that I enjoy. The spiciness of the Ginger Beer really compliments this smoke.
