Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  This one has been generously sponsored by our member Vroomp (Brad).  The cigar provided for this round is the Arturo Fuente Magnum R (Rosado Sungrown) Vitola 52.

The Arturo Fuente Rosado Sungrown Magnum R 52 is yet another show-stopping cigar coming from master blender Carlos Fuente Jr. Ever since their beginning, the Fuente family has absolutely dominated the cigar industry with their exotic blends, incredible workmanship and unmatched consistency. The Rosado Sungrown is by no means any exception to this standard of quality that the Fuentes seem to master like nobody else. As just about all Fuente cigars, this one hails from the Dominican Republic and is lovingly rolled using the finest quality Dominican filler and binder leaves. The big story about this cigar, however, is the exotic Ecuadorian Rosado Sungrown wrapper leaf, gathered from the lower primings of the tobacco plant for a more mellow, "old-school" taste, straying from Carlos Fuente Jr's signature trend of powerful "experienced smoker only" cigars of recent years. These leaves were left over from the original Fuente Sungrown line and aged for an incredible 8-10 years before rolling. After production, the cigars age for an additional year in order for the flavors to "marry."

This cigar was enjoyed with Ginger Ale

Pre-Light: 18 Points of 20 Possible

Slight sheen to the nearly seamless wrapper. Firm without a soft spot to be found. Very slight barny aroma to the cigar. Clipped the tip of the torpedo and found the prelight draw to be pretty free with a light cocoa flavor.

Light & Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

Took a couple extra matches to get this cigar going but once it was lit up it was good to go. Burn was not razor sharp but didn't need any corrections either. Ash is solid and sticks around until tapped off at about the 1/3 point.

Construction: 29 Points of 30 Possible

Draw is perfect with just the right amount of resistance. Wrapper is nicely done without any imperfections. Torpedo cap takes a straight cut well. Cigar performed flawlessly throughout the smoke. As with most Fuente product offerings the construction is awesome.

Flavor: 28 Points of 35 Possible

1/2) First thing I notice is the smoothness of this cigar, no harshness whatsoever and a very creamy smoke. Flavors of light tobacco, earth(dirt) and a bit of spice are my first flavors Spice is much more prevalent on the retrohale.

2/2) A bit of a slight metallic flavor comes in partway into the second half and is very prevalent in the retro alongside the peppery spice. Cigar seems to be going a bit "flat" the further I get into the smoke. The metallic flavor is getting very strong towards the end of the cigar.

Summary

Pretty decent cigar overall, typical fantastic Fuente construction but the flavors really seemed to die into the second half. Really found myself losing interest in this one towards the end. Definitely worth another shot.
Thanks to Vroomp for setting this up and aloowing me to participate.
