Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  This one has been generously sponsored by our member klamm143 (Kevin).  The cigar provided for this round is the Alec Bradley Prensado Churchill.

The Hype: Introducing, Prensado....a rich a redolent handmade guaranteed to satisfy. This exquisite handmade employs a special Trojes Corojo wrapper grown in Honduras and a flavorful blend of Nicaraguan, Honduran, and more Trojes long-fillers. Expect a bold and eventful blend that brings interesting flavors in spades. Buttery-smooth notes of deep, rich nuances including roasted flavors, coffee, and a dash of sweet red pepper. 96-rated and impressively built, that's Alec Bradley Prensado.

In addition to being named the Top Cigar of 2011, Alec Bradley Prensado received an unheard of, 96-point rating, noting, "The Alec Bradley Prensado is as gorgeous a cigar as you’ll ever see, with a picture-perfect head and a stunning wrapper. But it is the flavor that makes it a classic. The Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos come together to create leather, chocolate and spice notes, and a long, lush finish."

This cigar was enjoyed with Water

Pre-Light: 18 Points of 10 Possible

Pre light: This cigar had a very nice medium to almost a dark brown. The roll was almost seamless, with medium veins. The barrel was firm with no soft spots. Looking at the foot it showed a solid roll, and smelled of sweet grass.

Light & Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

The opening draw had a nice nuttiness possibly an almond flavor with a hint of sweet grass. There was also a slight spiciness, that left a light spice on the lips and roof of mouth. I had a small burn issue towards the end that needed a touch up.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

The cap was well applied, and cut clean with no splitting. The pre draw was of sweet grass with the bit of nuttiness. It had a very nice draw with no restrictions. The cigar toasted up nicely. Because of the firmness I thought there would be some draw restrictions but there was no issues.

Flavor: 26 Points of 45 Possible

The first third had a nice nuttiness along with a hint of leather with a bit of woodiness. The ash held for almost 1/2 inch before dropping was stacked and firm. The burn was slightly wavy but needed no adjustments. A second ash dropped at about a quarter of an inch just before the halfway point. The cigar had a nice volume of smoke and was gray in color.
Second third:  The burn continue to be a bit wavy starting of the second third. There was a bit of an Oaky wood taste along with a touch of leather in a bit of spice.
Last third:  Not many changes in flavor starting the last third. The burn continue to be wavy, slight tunneling effect came into play I let it rest for a bit and it's self-corrected with no touch up. The flavors continue to be about the same as the second third with some Oaky taste wood taste along with some leather  and some black coffee.
This cigar was medium to full.

Summary

Overall this was a very good smoke the flavors were enjoyable and it held my interest to the end.  I would definitely add some of these to my humidor to smoke at a later date to be enjoyed at night. Thanks for the opportunity to review this cigar.
