Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  This one has been generously sponsored by our member klamm143 (Kevin).  The cigar provided for this round is the Alec Bradley Prensado Churchill.

The Hype: Introducing, Prensado....a rich a redolent handmade guaranteed to satisfy. This exquisite handmade employs a special Trojes Corojo wrapper grown in Honduras and a flavorful blend of Nicaraguan, Honduran, and more Trojes long-fillers. Expect a bold and eventful blend that brings interesting flavors in spades. Buttery-smooth notes of deep, rich nuances including roasted flavors, coffee, and a dash of sweet red pepper. 96-rated and impressively built, that's Alec Bradley Prensado.

In addition to being named the Top Cigar of 2011, Alec Bradley Prensado received an unheard of, 96-point rating, noting, "The Alec Bradley Prensado is as gorgeous a cigar as you’ll ever see, with a picture-perfect head and a stunning wrapper. But it is the flavor that makes it a classic. The Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos come together to create leather, chocolate and spice notes, and a long, lush finish."

Pre-Light: 18 Points of 10 Possible

Right out of the wrapper you can smell some nice spice even with over a year of humidor time.  Firm, smooth dark wrapper.  This is how i like my cigars to look right out of the cello, very attractive.  Beautiful, no imperfections or large veins. Cut was made with a xikar xo, straight cut.  Spice and citrus on the cold draw.

Light & Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

Did a quick toast and off we go.  Good initial light and volume of smoke. Burn is a bit uneven. Straightened out without correction needed. Final third required one relight and correction.  After that it burned true. Ash was a nice grey with black.  Burn slowed in the second half, burn time was 1hr 40min

Construction: 25 Points of 30 Possible

Well constructed and rolled.  Cap and wrapper are perfect, looks to be a double cap.  Very nice soft velvety feel.  1st third the burn is a bit uneven. Good draw, not too much resistance. Last bit of the 2nd third, the burn has gone a bit uneven and required a touch up.  Ash turns bit flaky. Final third burned mostly true.

Flavor: 29 Points of 45 Possible

First off the aroma of this cigar is wonderful, exactly as i remember it and a lovely solid medium bodied smoke.  1st third seems to be going well with a nice creamy flavor, leather, after taste of spice/pepper.  Retro hale yields a light citrus and toast.  Nice long finish. 2nd third slight flavor shift, dark chocolate and coffee.  Moving more towards a medium-full flavor.  Flavors stayed through the last third and creamy flavor drops out and goes back a bit more medium and more chocolate flavor, bit of pepper, hints of cedar.

Summary

The churchill size of the Prensado still holds up well, wonderful medium-full cigar that is well constructed and well balanced. The flavor was solid and was as I remembered from prior sticks.  I just wished there was a bit more complexity, still had a mix of great flavors and great slow burn with a great volume of smoke.
