Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  This one has been generously sponsored by our member klamm143 (Kevin).  The cigar provided for this round is the Alec Bradley Prensado Churchill.

The Hype: Introducing, Prensado....a rich a redolent handmade guaranteed to satisfy. This exquisite handmade employs a special Trojes Corojo wrapper grown in Honduras and a flavorful blend of Nicaraguan, Honduran, and more Trojes long-fillers. Expect a bold and eventful blend that brings interesting flavors in spades. Buttery-smooth notes of deep, rich nuances including roasted flavors, coffee, and a dash of sweet red pepper. 96-rated and impressively built, that's Alec Bradley Prensado.

In addition to being named the Top Cigar of 2011, Alec Bradley Prensado received an unheard of, 96-point rating, noting, "The Alec Bradley Prensado is as gorgeous a cigar as you’ll ever see, with a picture-perfect head and a stunning wrapper. But it is the flavor that makes it a classic. The Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos come together to create leather, chocolate and spice notes, and a long, lush finish."

This cigar was enjoyed with water

Pre-Light: 18 Points of 20 Possible

I have smoked one of these before but has been awhile. This is a good looking stick with a molted wrapper with no visible seams and a nice firm pak with no soft spots. It has a very slight box press. There are a couple veins but nothing to major.I get an earthy smell from the wrapper and the cap cuts nicely.

Light & Burn: 12 Points of 15 Possible

The stick fires up nicely but on the day I smoke it the humidity is running around 70% with thunder showers so the burn is super slow and you have to puff on I at times to get some smoke out of it.I do have to touch it up a couple times and relight it once. The ash is a little flaky and is dark and light gray in color.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

The construction on this stick is top notch. The draw is dead on with just enough resistance. Its a nic eseamless wrapper, but it is light and dark in color. There are a couple veins sowing on it but no issue. It is just a very well constructed stick.

Flavor: 30 Points of 35 Possible

1st Third.I fire this baby up and I can tell I am going to enjoy this stick.I get a little spice and pepper. There is also a little chocolate and eratiness .On the retroa very mild pepper with a tinge of spice. The flavor profile is smooth. The strength at this time medium to medium full. The burn time for the first third is 55min.This is one slow burner I have to attribute it to the high humidity.
2nd Third.-The 2nd third starts out and finishes almost the same. There are very little transitions and is very consistant. The pepper does pick up but the chocolate subsides.Still a very smooth stick.Burn time is 1hr.Durning this third I do touch it up a couple times.
Last Third.-The stick stays very consistant with the other thirds the choclate does come back but fades at the end.I get more earhiness in this third In this third the stick ggets up to full strength.

Summary

The total burn time on this stick was 3hrs.,with the humidity so high it had to effect the burn and the time it took to smoke, the stick is not overly complex but what was there I did enjoy..I like the flovors it prduces and how smooth it is.I would smoke another of these in a heart beat. Thanks Kevin for including me in this reveiw
