Cigar Geeks Geek Critique

Smoke n' Guns Corojo Corona
Written by Cigar Geeks Member: Kent (05Venturer)

Cigar Geeks Rating

The Hype: The Smoke N’ Guns Corojo is a collaboration between Oscar Valladares (who also rolls the Leaf & Bean line) and the founder of Smoke N’ Guns, Inc of Pittsburgh, PA, a unique shop that sells cigars, coffee and has a fully licensed gun sales counter in the back of the shop.

With a wrapper from Honduras, its filler has leaves from both Honduras and Nicaragua and binder from Nicaragua, with a peppery start and a wonderfully smooth finish. Its easy draw makes it a great smoke with no labor at all. This medium bodied cigar is the perfect afternoon smoke break. One of the hidden gems.

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Beautiful looking cigar with an ever so slight sheen to the wrapper. One vein that shows up a bit but otherwise a nice looking stick with a aroma of light tobacco and just the smallest hint of barnyard. Prelight draw shows just the right amount of resistance.

Light & Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

Burn is very good, not razor sharp but definitely not any issues, ash is a light grey with a bit of dark patches mottled in and is a bit flaky but not terrible, it holds on in 3/4 increments until I tap it off. No relights required and smoke volume is very good when drawing and cuts back nicely during rest.

Construction: 30 Points of 30 Possible

Construction on this cigar was great, from the perfectly applied cap and nice roll all the way thru the fantastic draw thru the entirety of the smoke. Construction shows zero imperfections as there are no soft spots and the burn stays consistent throughout.

Flavor: 42 Points of 45 Possible

First 1/2: flavors of tobacco, earth, and spices, this is definitely a great way to start up my day. First couple retrohales were pretty potent and then mellow out a bit.

Second 1/2: Second half starts out with much of the same but seems to have a "fuller" flavor which is very inviting. Retrohale has settled into just enough spice and flavor that make me want to retro nearly every draw. Great cigar start to finish.

Summary

I have had the pleasure of smoking a few of these previously and visiting the Smoke n' Guns shop in PA so this was not my first in the line and definitely will not be the last. Although all of their lines are very good this stick is my favorite of the Smoke n' Guns line. Thanks to Chuck for supplying these great cigars and giving me a chance to share my views with the rest of the Geeks. I would definitely recommend everyone to give these cigars a shot.
