Cigar Geeks Geek Critique

Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to a Geek Critique of a cigar generously provided to us by our friends at Jas Sum Kral.  https://jassumkral.com/  After a bit of teasing, the company says that it will sell a new line of cigars called “!@#%$ (or F) the FDA” at the upcoming Tobacco Plus Expo (TPE) 2020. Since this cigar is a pre-release, Riste Ristevski, the company’s owner, declined to answer questions about further details surrounding the cigar, instead he replied with a band that displayed the brand’s name along with a background comprised of middle fingers.  Special thanks goes out to Riste for providing the sticks and bstessl (Brian) for coordinating this!

This cigar was enjoyed with Dewar's Caribbean Smooth 8 year

Pre-Light: 9 Points of 10 Possible

Good looking cigar, nice dark wrapper and pretty firm.  Smooth wrapper, dark light oil. Double guillotine cut was smooth and clean, no cracking or issues.  Nice aroma off the wrapper and foot.

Smooth cold draw, grass, wood and hay flavor on the draw.

Light & Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

Nice initial burn, solid ash, good volume of smoke, burn started to get a bit uneven in the first 1/4 and needed to correct.

Ash pretty solid, no flaking of the ash, good solid 2 inch ash blocks, knocked them off and didn't have any flaking till the end.

Construction: 27 Points of 30 Possible

Draw is pretty smooth, great wrapper, a bit of a sloppy cap.  Draw remains good and good volume of smoke.

Burn stayed sharp for 2/3 of the cigar and only went out once before the final 1/3.  Slight burn issue on the last 1/3 that needed to have a slight correction.

Flavor: 37 Points of 45 Possible

Medium body to start, medium to full flavor, slight sweet hint to start, bread/yeast, sandalwood, grass toasted bread on the retro-hale. No pepper.

Flavors haven't changed into the second half. The aftertaste still lingers. Flavor falls to medium minus.

Last 1/3 of the slight sweet taste on draw, slight metallic taste, some hay.

Summary

So... overall a good cigar, the cigar was a pretty dark and I expected a bit of spice or pepper and was surprised: no spice, no pepper.  A complex interesting cigar.  The wood, grass and slight sweet hints, makes me want to try this again.
