Cigar Geeks Geek Critique

Vegas Robaina Famosos

Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  Up for review this time is the Vegas Robaina Famosos.  This one is an all Canadian member review and will be the first time we have a Cuban cigar in a Geek Critique.  This Robusto is typically a Vegas Robaina cigar: honeyed and spicy with a superb construction which can be compared to the Cohiba Robusto. The tempo is good, you will definitely appreciate the flavours and the virility of this cigar.  This cigar has been generously sponsored by our member S├ębastien (mojo66).  Thanks very much for your generosity S├ębastien!

Pre-Light: 19 Points of 10 Possible

The look of this cigar is classic. It had a nice simple elegant band, smooth wrapper with minor veins, a prominent cap making for an easy cut, no over powering smells, and a slight floral smell. The band slipped off easily.

Light & Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

I used matches to fire up this Cuban beauty.  The ash was white throughout the burn and held on for the first half without any effort on my part. There was a good amount of smoke and no touch ups required. I smoked it outside on a great day.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

Cap and wrapper smooth with no bumps or lumps and no detectable soft spots. The construction was tight but it did not effect the draw. Wrapper and filler stayed intact for the entire cigar. I took apart the cap and inspected the contents. It was well made and smelled great.

Flavor: 32 Points of 45 Possible

1st half: A creamy taste right away. The cigar was nice and smooth to the taste buds.
2nd half: taste profile remained the same for the second half with a slight nicotine buzz at the end. Not complex in my opinion but just excellent throughout.

Summary

Overall I loved this cigar. If you are looking for a quality cigar that is smooth and not harsh to your taste buds this is a topnotch choice. I would rate this as a medium strength cigar. Thanks again Mojo for the opportunity.
