Cigar Geeks Geek Critique

Los Hermanos Toro Maduro

Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  Up for review this time is the Los Hermanos Toro Maduro.  Some of the hype surrounding the cigar: "Los Hermanos, which translates to “The Brothers,” is a limited quantity cigar produced by the people of Casa Fernandez & Tropical Tobacco, who are known for growing some of the best tobaccos in the world at their Aganorsa farms. The Los Hermanos Maduro is a line extension of the boutique Los Hermanos brand, which sees the addition of a dark and oily San Andrés Maduro wrapper. These cigars are blended using Aganorsa grown Nicaraguan tobacco from legendary Cuban master Arsenio Ramos. The Los Hermanos Maduro is as full-bodied as the original Los Hermanos, but with the addition of earthy richness from the San Andres Maduro wrapper. All Los Hermanos cigars are made in small batch quantities to ensure quality year to year, so supplies are limited."  This cigar has been generously sponsored by our member Eric (smurf).  Thanks very much for your generosity Eric!

Pre-Light: 17 Points of 10 Possible

Nice looking wrapper that was a bit toothy. A beautiful dark leaf wrapper with no soft spots. The cigar was light in weight but well constructed. Judging by pictures I've seen I would say this viola is what a Classic Cuban cigar looks like.

Light & Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

This was a great burning stick. With such a toothy wrapper I wasn't sure if there would be any problems but there certainly weren't.
It lit easily and burned perfectly, and while not razor straight, it had a beautiful mascara and required no touch up.

Construction: 26 Points of 30 Possible

Construction was excellent. The draw was perfect and presented no problems. The cigar did develop one crack while smoking but that didn't seem to make any issues with the smoke. A well made cap that gave a perfect cut topped everything off.

Flavor: 30 Points of 45 Possible

Overall this is a strong medium bodied smoke. It  started off with peppery notes that quickly settled into a solid leathery taste with just the faintest dark chocolate notes occasionally. Throughout there were hints of cashew as well, yet none of these ever came to the forefront.

Summary

Overall this was a well made cigar that didn't present any surprises; a solid leathery tobacco with mild notes of pepper and the occasional hints of cashew and chocolate. This was a great cigar but it was lacking in any complexity. I would try it again and would like to see how it ages.
