Cigar Geeks Geek Critique

Curivari Seleccion Privada Eminentes Maduro

Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  Up for review this time is the Curivari Seleccion Privada Eminentes Maduro.  Some of the hype surrounding the cigar: "Curivari is a Nicaraguan boutique cigar company that truly embodies the term “for the love of the leaf.” According to the company, their blends are made exclusively with Cuban-seed Criollo and Corojo leaves. The Seleccion Privada line is medium-bodied with notes of cedar, cinnamon, honey sweetness, and floral undertones. This flavor profile, along with excellent construction and a masterful aging process, makes Curivari Seleccion Privada an unforgettable smoke."  This cigar has been generously sponsored by our member Jeff (jdwaynes1980).  Thanks very much for your generosity Jeff!

This cigar was enjoyed with Iced Tea

Pre-Light: 19 Points of 10 Possible

Nice oily wrapper with a few veins. Color was a bit lighter than a lot of maduros I am used to. A firm feel to the stick. Prelight draw was earthy with slight barnyard and sweetness. Great looking cigar.

Light & Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

Burn for this cigar was excellent right up until I got to about the last 1/3 where I had to touch it up slightly. Ash was a medium/dark gray and held on until I tapped it off and about 1 1/2 inches so as not to have it on my lap. Smoke volume was great and burn rate was awesome also.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

Draw was fantastic from start to finish, I cut a cross pattern with my V-Vutter. Body of the stick had a firm feel to it with zero soft spots. I did have one slight wrapper issue right towards the nub where it began to unravel very slightly.

Flavor: 35 Points of 45 Possible

The first 1/2 was earthy and woodsy with some pepper and a very spicy retrohale.

The second 1/2 started to mellow a bit and I got a creaminess that wasn't there in the first 1/2. The pepper faded and the spiciness on the retrohale was nearly nonexistent.

Summary

Overall I really enjoyed this cigar and will look forward to smoking another. I did not find a lot of complexity, but that is not a problem for me at all as this is just a really good smoke. Took an hour and 35 minutes to smoke and enjoyed it the entire time.
Thanks again for including me in this critique and a big Thank You to Jeff (jdwaynes1980) for sponsoring.
