Cigar Geeks Geek Critique

Curivari Seleccion Privada Eminentes Maduro

Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to another Member sponsored Geek Critique.  Up for review this time is the Curivari Seleccion Privada Eminentes Maduro.  Some of the hype surrounding the cigar: "Curivari is a Nicaraguan boutique cigar company that truly embodies the term “for the love of the leaf.” According to the company, their blends are made exclusively with Cuban-seed Criollo and Corojo leaves. The Seleccion Privada line is medium-bodied with notes of cedar, cinnamon, honey sweetness, and floral undertones. This flavor profile, along with excellent construction and a masterful aging process, makes Curivari Seleccion Privada an unforgettable smoke."  This cigar has been generously sponsored by our member Jeff (jdwaynes1980).  Thanks very much for your generosity Jeff!

This cigar was enjoyed with Dr. pepper

Pre-Light: 18 Points of 10 Possible

This cigar had a nice dark chocolate wrapper without any large veins or flaws. The aroma had a nice light cut grass scent to it which was very pleasant and appealing. The V-cut was a little hard to get through the cap, but it did not break or hurt the head.

Light & Burn: 13 Points of 15 Possible

The cigar lit very easily had a hard crisp burn line until the last third when it started having problems that needed touch ups. It could not correct itself until a touch up was done and that was the only bad thing about this cigar. The ash held well until knocked off and was firm and dark gray in color. The smoke was very thick and flavorful.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

The feel of the cigar was very firm without any soft spots. The pre light draw had little resistance that did not change once the cigar was lit. There was no trouble with the wrapper other than the cap was a little hard to cut. Very nice construction.

Flavor: 34 Points of 45 Possible

I found this to be a very nice cigar. Upon lighting, it produced lots of sweet smoke and tasted nice across the palate. Notes of pepper and chocolate were shining through.
The second third was a repeat of the sweetness and pepper flavors along with some nice hints of bread yeast and cedar notes.
The last third, where the burn issues developed, the sweet and pepper tastes dropped out but the cedar notes developed fully.
My conclusion is that this was a very enjoyable cigar.

Summary

I can find no major fault with the Curivari cigar. It had lots of tastes that changed throughout the cigar making me want more to see what would be next. Right out of the cellophane it had a nice aroma, and other than a little resistance with my V- cutter, this was nearly a flawless smoke. Smoking the cigar was a pleasure even with a little touch up near the last third. I wouldn't hesitate to smoke these again. Thanks for allowing me to enjoy this cigar and hope this helps others pick one up to try.
