Cigar Geeks Rating

Welcome to another Vendor sponsored Geek Critique.  Up for review this time is the Camacho Liberty 2017.  This critique has been generously sponsored by David of Cigarsatyourprice.com.  Special thanks goes out to Dave for providing the sticks and wescat (Kevin) for coordinating this!

All of the Camacho Liberty Series cigars boast a complex blend of their rarest and finest tobaccos, with each year's version providing its own special twist. Handcrafted and extremely limited in supply, only 2,000 boxes of this entry into Camacho's Brotherhood Series are made each year. The Liberty series is sold in boxes of 20, with each cigar packaged in its own individual coffin.

This cigar was enjoyed with Models Negra

Pre-Light: 19 Points of 20 Possible

If presentation was the defining factor of a cigar then this would be nearly impossible to beat.  The cigar is presented in a tissue wrapping, inside of a tastefully decorated cedar coffin.  Inside of the coffin is a lapel pin that honors the 15th anniversary of the Camacho Liberty.  The cigar is a lovely chocolate brown and is lightly glistening with oils.  The whole leaf is mostly begin free except near the head and is topped with a perfect triple cap.  The band is much more subtle than lady year which I'm particularly happy about.  The seams are invisible and all visual aspects of construction are superb.

The pre light aroma is both sweet and sour and has a deep compost note.

Light & Burn: 14 Points of 15 Possible

I chose to use a punch on this cigar and experienced a very slight split at the cap when the cutter punched through.  Upon lighting I was immediately blessed with creamy and rich simple that was ample  and flavorful.  Burn rate was slightly faster than I expected for a cigar of this size but that might be because I couldn't put it down!  Each puff called for another and I obliged!  The burn line was almost perfect from start to finish and I never thought about using my lighter after the initial lighting.

Construction: 28 Points of 30 Possible

This cigar had a nearly perfect draw for me, which led to amazing smoke production.  The ash held on for huge two inch chunks, and remained mostly intact even after being tapped off.  The only fault I could find in construction was the dental cap split that happened upon punching... It split just a bit near the end but not enough to be a problem.

Flavor: 33 Points of 35 Possible

From the beginning puffs I knew this was going to be a special cigar.  Right away I got a huge cloud of smoke smoke that smacked of creamy leather.  The finish was short and was primarily bread...and still creamy.

As the second third developed I began to get a sweet salted caramel note that lingered on my palate between puffs.  The leather faded but the cream remained.

The final portion of the cigar continued to be creamy and sweet but developed a bit of pepper through the nose and increased in intensity just slightly through the end of the cigar.

For the totality of the smoke I never experienced any harshness, bitterness, or otherwise unpleasant flavors... Furthermore, I like to retrohale, and due to the easy going nature of the smoke I was able to do it from the first puff to the last.  Wonderful!

Summary

I'll start off by saying that this is absolutely a box worthy cigar.  The flavors are delicious, the construction is impeccable, and the presentation is top notch.  The new smoker can rest assured that this will not be over powering, and the veteran will be engaged.  I'm hooked, and probably will own a box before long...it really is that good.

Thanks for selecting me to review this cigar... It was time very well spent!
